Things have been more hectic than normal here at Ronnie Towers since the August release of our limited edition rifle, the RS Platinum. Produced in Birmingham, in conjunction with BSA and with a limited production run of 150 guns, the Platinum is something we are very, very proud of. Since going on sale it has had a great reception from both the shooting press and the lucky customers who have already received theirs. For those of you that may have missed the media buzz surrounding it's release (due no doubt to taking a well earned holiday) details of this astounding air rifle follow and should you be tempted to grab not only a great piece of kit but also a little bit of history, you still can..if you're quick.
The brief for the RS Platinum was to produce a crossover air rifle that would compete at the highest level 'straight out of the box', while being reliable and accessible enough to be enjoyed as an every day gun, at the club or out in the field. The design was finalised with the team at BSA who, with over 150 years of experience in gun making and with the latest manufacturing technology to call upon, produced a gun that has surpassed all our expectations. In essence the Platinum is a hybrid of two existing BSA rifles. It's foundation is the ever popular, rugged and ever reliable Scorpion, which has been taken to another level with the incorporation of several elements of their Flagship HFT competition rifle, the Goldstar.
The first thing to note is the stunning, fully adjustable laminated stock. Produced in a brooding monsoon grey colour by Minelli of Italy. Both the cheek piece and the butt pad are adjustable allowing the gun to be customised to each individuals requirements, ensuring complete balance and total control. Each rifle stock also comes with an engraved name plate allowing your pride and joy to be further personalised by the factory.
There is also a spare, blank plate included in the unlikely event that you may want to pass this rifle on. The overall look of the rifle is further enhanced with the addition of some stunning chromed parts such as the cocking bolt, muzzle break, sling studs, trigger and trigger guard.
So it looks good and fits like a glove but how does it shoot? Phil Price the editor of Air Gunner Magazine wrote in his review “The Scorpion RS varied just 17 fps over 100 shots, that's better than many regulated guns”. This kind of performance is testament to the quality of the BSA action which utilises the 'fast strike' valve system. This system is efficient, consistent and it produces an incredibly fast lock time. To make the most of this outstanding power delivery the standard Scorpion barrel has been upgraded to the ECHF - enhanced match barrel, normally reserved only for the Goldstar. BSA are very proud and rightly so, that they are the only English air gun manufacturer that make their own barrels. These are cold hammer forged and undergo the strictest quality control, the extra process that goes in to the ECHF barrels is a closely guarded secret but rest assured it makes a difference. The air reservoir, pressure gauge and filling port are also all taken from the Goldstar as they are an ergonomic improvement on the Scorpion design.
In conclusion it's rare, unique, looks great and shoots straight out of the top drawer, in fact Roger Lait - HFT Champion Shooter said “The balance and performance are second to none, giving outstanding accuracy. In my eyes this gun is a true winner". As I mentioned at the start, this rifle has gained some high praise indeed from some of the biggest names in the airgun world.
The Platinum is being offered as a complete package and is supplied with a BSA EMD 4-12x44 AO Scope with a Mil-Dot reticle and BSA sports mounts. We selected this scope for the quality of the glass and it's low profile, allowing it to be fitted very close to the barrel. There is also a BSA variable choke ½'' UNF silencer provided that can be screwed onto the barrel in place of the muzzle break. We have also included 2x 10 shot magazines and a simple rifle slip in black with grey trim that bears the famous piled arms, BSA logo.
All in all we are all very pleased with the results of our labour and if you want to treat yourself to something that's more than just a bit special, we still have some left, however they will soon be gone. To grab one pop into either our Berkhamsted or Newton Abbot store, call us or follow this link …....RS Platinum ....and place your order. Total cost of this superb package is just £799 and as with all air rifles supplied by Ronnie Sunshines, the Platinum is covered by our lifetime warranty and servicing guarantee.
